Pelvic Health

Improving Pelvic Floor Muscle Health For Everyone.

Pelvic Health Rehabilitation is a growing area of specialty as people are becoming more comfortable speaking with their Health care Practitioners about issues they are experiencing with their bladder, bowel and sexual function. Although changes in bladder and bowel function following pregnancy are common, people should not resign themselves to thinking it is normal. Research reviewed by the Cochrane Collaboration supports Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation, provided by Physiotherapists who have specialized training in this field, prior to surgical consultation for stress, urge and mixed incontinence.

It is not just women that have pelvic floor muscles!  Men and non-binary people also experience urinary incontinence and for those who have had surgery for prostate cancer, it is not uncommon. Research supports the use of Pelvic Health Physiotherapy as PRE-habilitation, prior to surgery, to improve post-operative recovery. When Pelvic Health Physiotherapy was started within 3 months prior to surgery, these men had better outcomes then those who started Pelvic Health Physiotherapy after surgery.

Did you know that the pelvic floor muscles are an integral component of our core muscles and play an essential role in keeping our backs healthy? Do you have persistent low back or sacroiliac pain and dysfunction? It may be time for you to see a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist!
