Rehabilitation Pilates in Toronto – Rehabilitation Pilates as Part of Your Physiotherapy Care
Rehabilitation Pilates at Strive
At Strive, Rehabilitation Pilates is offered as one of several treatment tools that may be incorporated into a physiotherapy treatment plan when clinically appropriate.
Your care begins with a comprehensive physiotherapy assessment. Based on the findings of that assessment, your physiotherapist will develop an individualized rehabilitation program designed to help you achieve your goals. This program may include education, manual therapy, activity modification, home exercises, strength and conditioning, and other rehabilitation strategies.
For some patients, a period of Rehabilitation Pilates may be recommended as part of their recovery. This decision is based on clinical need and is not automatically prescribed following an assessment. In many cases, patients will begin with physiotherapy-directed exercises and progress to Rehabilitation Pilates only if their physiotherapist determines that it would provide additional benefit in achieving their rehabilitation goals.
When Rehabilitation Pilates Is Prescribed
When Rehabilitation Pilates is prescribed, sessions are delivered by a Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) with Pilates training under the direction and supervision of your physiotherapist. Your physiotherapist remains responsible for your treatment plan, establishes the treatment goals, monitors your progress, and communicates regularly with the PTA regarding your care.
Rehabilitation Pilates sessions are goal-oriented and are designed to improve movement quality, motor control, strength, body awareness, function, and self-management skills. These appointments follow physiotherapy billing rates and appointment structures and are typically scheduled as 30-minute sessions.
Rehabilitation Pilates is not a stand-alone service and cannot be booked directly without a physiotherapy assessment and treatment plan. The number of sessions recommended will depend on your individual needs, progress, and rehabilitation goals.
Our objective is to help patients transition toward independence through a home exercise program, return to activity, group exercise, or Fitness Pilates as appropriate.
Fitness Pilates
Strive also offers Fitness Pilates, which is separate from our Rehabilitation Pilates program.
Fitness Pilates is a wellness and exercise service designed and delivered directly by the Pilates instructor. These sessions are not part of a physiotherapy treatment plan, are not supervised by a physiotherapist, and are intended for general fitness, strength, conditioning, mobility, and wellness goals.
Fitness Pilates appointments are typically 60 minutes in length and may be appropriate for individuals who are looking for ongoing exercise or who have completed their rehabilitation goals.
What’s the difference between Rehabilitation Pilates and Fitness Pilates?
Rehabilitation Pilates is a component of a physiotherapy treatment plan that may be prescribed when a physiotherapist determines it is clinically appropriate. It is supervised by a physiotherapist, focused on specific rehabilitation goals, and follows physiotherapy appointment lengths and billing rates. Rehabilitation Pilates is typically prescribed as a defined block of sessions based on the patient’s assessment findings, diagnosis, functional limitations, and treatment goals. Sessions are generally 30 minutes in length, and progress is regularly reviewed by the supervising physiotherapist to determine whether additional sessions are required, treatment goals have been achieved, or transition to an independent exercise program or Fitness Pilates is appropriate.
Fitness Pilates, is a separate service led by the Pilates instructor. It is not supervised by a physiotherapist, focuses on general fitness, strength, mobility, and wellness goals, and consists of 60-minute sessions designed by the instructor based on the individual’s fitness objectives.
